Welcome to Chestnut 1
We have 30 children in Chestnut 1 and our teachers are Miss Bartholomew, Mrs Gilbert and Mrs Cross.
We aim to grow this class page over time, together with the children and parent's needs, so please do tell a class teacher if there is anything specific that you would find useful to see on it.
Our topic this term is Splish, Splosh, Splash. We have broken this down into further themes and centred our reading, writing and other subjects around them. We have completed 'pirates', 'oceans & whales' and 'seasides and mermaids' and are currently finishing 'lighthouses'.
We have been learning about:
Our oceans and where they are
Maps and symbols
Seaside holidays in the past
Mermaids and mythical creatures of the sea
Whale conservation and other ‘green’ issues.
Lighthouses and their purpose
You might like to join in with our learning at home too. We have a 'Busy Board' to showcase the work completed by the children at home so please do bring in anything topic related they have worked on outside school.
Design and Technology Splish, Splash, Splosh Day
Children took part in a fun, creative and hands-on Design and Technology day all centred around their topic. Children used a variety of different materials and tools to create lots of different sea creatures and assemble a Year 1 and Year 2 display.
Polly's Show and Tell - Meet the Chicks
Polly brought in two of her five chicks from home. We discussed different facts about chickens before drawing pictures.
