Whilst we are home learning, we will be using zoom to teach live introductions to lessons in Literacy and Maths every day. Our morning registration followed by Literacy will start at 9.30am. Children need to be prepared for these lessons and have all of their school equipment ready. The afternoon registration followed by Maths will begin at 1.10pm. A message outlining the tasks and activities will be sent via Seesaw by 6pm the previous evening. Activities for non-core subjects will be set as assigned activities also on Seesaw. Every Wednesday we are lucky enough to have art sessions planned by Niki Pateman and a PE lesson delivered via zoom by Jane Douglass who is a dance specialist for the borough.
In addition to the above, children can also complete:
Welcome to Year 2!
Mrs Strawson, Ms Maher, Ms Bryan and Mrs Pocock are very excited to be working with you and your children this year. We see you as an active partner in your child's education and we really value your interest and support. By the end of the year we hope that the children have developed in confidence and independence to be the best that they can be.
At Cookham Rise, topics are taught on a two year rolling program of themes. Our topic this term is Toys, Trains and Transport. Year 1 and 2 collaborate together to supply an enriched learning environment where children can access new information, build upon prior knowledge and develop as learners. Literacy, maths, science, music, PE, computing, life skills and RE are taught separately.
We follow the Read Write Inc. phonics and literacy scheme which is taught for an hour every day. This scheme covers phonics, reading, writing, grammar and comprehension skills. In Year 2, children will follow on from their Read Write Inc phonic lessons from Year 1 and move onto Literacy and Language lessons once they have completed the phonic program. PE will be taught twice a week in addition to being active on our daily mile run.
Every morning, children wash their hands before entering the classroom.
There is a morning task for children to complete at their desks.
A visual timetable is accessible to all children so that they are aware of the activities planned for the day.
Every day, children have a morning break, lunch time and an afternoon break.
We give brain breaks throughout the day to help us become mindful of ourselves and our surroundings.
Weekly curriculum letters are sent home so parents can have a better understanding of what has been completed in class.
Work is uploaded to Seesaw to help celebrate the children's endeavours.
Our behaviour policy follows three main rules: Ready, Respectful and Safe.
We hope that all the information has been useful. If you have any additional questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask a member of the Year 2 team.
