"We want all our children to SHINE"

Ash 2

Welcome to Ash 2!

Welcome to Year 2!

Mrs Strawson, Ms Maher, Ms Bryan and Mrs Pocock are very excited to be working with you and your children this year. We see you as an active partner in your child's education and we really value your interest and support. By the end of the year we hope that the children have developed in confidence and independence to be the best that they can be.

At Cookham Rise, topics are taught on a two year rolling program of themes. Our topic this term is Waterways Around the World. Year 1 and 2 collaborate together to supply an enriched learning environment where children can access new information, build upon prior knowledge and develop as learners. Literacy, maths, science, music, PE, computing, life skills and RE are taught separately.

We follow the Read Write Inc. phonics and literacy scheme which is taught for an hour every day. This scheme covers phonics, reading, writing, grammar and comprehension skills. In Year 2, children will follow on from their Read Write Inc phonic lessons from Year 1 and move onto Literacy and Language lessons once they have completed the phonic program. PE will be taught twice a week in addition to being active on our daily mile run.

Helpful information:

Every morning, children wash their hands before entering the classroom.

There is a morning task for children to complete at their desks.

A visual timetable is accessible to all children so that they are aware of the activities planned for the day.

Every day, children have a morning break, lunch time and an afternoon break.

We give brain breaks throughout the day to help us become mindful of ourselves and our surroundings.

Weekly curriculum letters are sent home so parents can have a better understanding of what has been completed in class.

Work is uploaded to Seesaw to help celebrate the children's endeavours.

Our behaviour policy follows three main rules: Ready, Respectful and Safe.

We hope that all the information has been useful. If you have any additional questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask a member of the Year 2 team.
