Storms and Shipwrecks Summer Homework Project
Hard Times
We teach each of the topics below on a two-year cycle across lower key stage 2 (years 3 and 4). The topic web shows the objectives for literacy, geography, history, music, art, DT, RE, PE and Life skills (PSHE). Alongside this, the children are taught the Year 4 maths curriculum, supported by Abacus planning, and French, using the Rigolo scheme of work. Our literacy work is based on the Read Write Inc Literacy and Language programme, alongside topic-related texts.
Each term, children will take part in trips and activities related to the topic. Recently, trips have included visiting the Victorian classroom at Reading Museum, RAF Hendon, Portsmouth Royal Naval Dockyard, Neasden Temple, the Ashmolean museum and various trips exploring Cookham and the local area.
Related activities include bird of prey handling, cockpit simulator experience from West London Aero Club, The Tempest drama workshop, Bollywood dancing, a visit from Istillus (an ancient Greek) and making jam to be served at a tea for the local community.
